Home Office Makeover Week 6 – ORC

Someone recently told me that the Earth is actually spinning faster than ever before which is why our days seem to be going by faster and I’ve never heard something that made as much sense.

There’s nothing like signing up for the weekly One Room Challenge to throw the speed of a day into high gear, especially when you are still juggling all of the day to day tasks of work, family, and beyond.

As great as my intentions were for this week, I will admit that the time did get away on me.

While I was unable to complete the lighting or the built-ins like originally planned, I did take a few steps toward the end goal that I am happy to share!

1st up – Organization!

This is a big one and often something that is overlooked on a home reveal but decluttering and downsizing make a huge difference when all is said and done.

When I started the project I should have taken the time to go through items and determine what did and didn’t belong in the space but I’m a “jump in with both feet” kinda gal and the fastest way to get started was to throw all of my belongings haphazardly into boxes and forget about them for as long as possible.

Eventually, and it was sooner rather than later due to it being my actual office, I needed an item from one box or another and the next thing I knew I had little piles everywhere – not ideal for a workspace or a renovation space.

So, for around half an hour each day for the last week, I dedicated the time to organizing the space. I went through the piles, filed receipts in the correct locations and organized my drawers to ensure that all of the necessities are happily within reach and more importantly, out of sight.

Something that makes office organization easier is to take a photo of the space and then look at the photo to see what doesn’t belong.

My surface decor, which I originally thought was cute, ended up looking totally overdone on the camera and so I was more than happy to downsize in that department.

Next up: my chair.

If you’ve been following along you will know that my chair painting has been humming along a little less than smooth BUT I finally caved and ordered the actual products on the tutorial from Salvaged Inspirations and I think I’ve had a breakthrough!

I still need to let things dry a bit longer and sand some of the areas but the brown wax made ALL of the difference on this one! 😍😍

Finally: the orders.

I was hoping to have all of the electrical completed by now but in celebration of the small wins, I ordered outlets and a switch!

I recently purchased these stunning bronze switches for a client project and knew I needed to incorporate them in my space. I am happy to announce that they have arrived and are better than I could have imagined!

I was also really looking forward to purchasing a new light for the space but I haven’t landed on anything that has the wow factor that I am looking for with a price point that fits the bill so at this point I think I will install this round option that I found tucked away in my basement ( I’m not a hoarder, I’m not a hoarder!)

Eventually, when I have more time, I would love to move the light fixture further into the centre of the room and do a beautiful wood coffered ceiling to finish off the space, but for now I am hoping that swapping out the fixture will just help to give me a little more much needed light in the space.

That’s all for now- If you need me I’ll be spending some time on YouTube learning about how to switch out receptacles ✌️ -Ang
